Project Approach
The Project Approach evolved from a desire to help students participate in and contribute to a democratic society. It is situated within a Constructivist-based theoretical framework and is part of a long history of innovative teaching practices that highlight critical thinking and learner involvement. Today's growing body of research on what students need to find success and fulfillment in the 21st Century shows the Project Approach provides opportunities for young children to seek an in-depth understanding of complex issues, collaborate with fellow learners, and take ownership of their learning.
Early Childhood Connections
Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago has been providing Project Approach training since 2001 to teachers working with at-risk and low income communities. With this training, Kohl has developed relationships with teachers across many schools, home daycares, and childcare centers. To date, Early Childhood Connections has served 11,624 students, families, and educators through our child care series, and 33, 489 students, families, and educators through our district series.
Project Approach Connections
The idea for the Project Approach Connections website and forum was born through a need and desire to build upon the growing community of educators, families, and students becoming involved in the Project Approach. After finishing Project Approach trainings, many teachers, especially those who are the only ones in their area/school doing the project approach, speak of the excitement they get from collaborating with other educators. We want to continue to provide a space for collaboration to further enhance the education landscape.
